One of the key differences between the three former Yorkshire dioceses and the new Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales is the "Episcopal Area" system. What this means is that each of the five areas has a designated bishop who has responsibility for them, allowing for close episcopal involvement across the diocese, even though the size of the diocese has increased.
In the case of the Leeds area, that bishop is Bishop Nick. In the case of Ripon, the post of bishop is currently vacant. In the Wakefield Area, Bishop Tony Robinson is the area bishop, in Huddersfield Bishop Jonathan Gibbs is area bishop and in the case of Bradford, Bishop Toby Howarth is area bishop.
