St Aidan’s School Choir sing out for Prom Praise

St Aidan's SChool Chamber Choir, HarrogateExcitement is growing as Prom Praise returns to York Barbican on Saturday 3 October and students from the Chamber Choir of St. Aidan's High School in Harrogate have been asked to take part.

They will be singing the popular worship song ‘King of Kings, Majesty’, written by Yorkshire-based song-writer and worship leader, Jarrod Cooper, arranged by the choir’s Director of Music, Mark Pallant.  Also “O Radiant Dawn” by Sir James MacMillan, chosen for its strong lyrics about Jesus, the Light of the World.

The choir has a reputation as a polished, committed and energetic youth choir with a clear Christian connection.  They are well known in North Yorkshire and nationally and often sing in churches across the diocese as well as Ripon Cathedral. They’ve also sung as part of the Music for Youth Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, featured on BBC1 Songs of Praise School Choir and in 2011 sang at Westminster Abbey in a special thanksgiving to mark 200 years of church schools.

Their Director, Mark Pallant said,
“It is a real privilege for us to be asked to perform at this unique and joyful event with its uplifting mix of high quality music, exciting range of styles and worshipful atmosphere – a combination which chimes perfectly with our ethos as a school”

St Aidan's Choir in practiceThe continuing high standard of the choir is all the more remarkable given that, being a 6th Form only choir, half of the choir leaves each year, meaning that the choir has an entirely different membership every two years!

Prom Praise combines the spirit of Songs of Praise with the style of the world-famous Last Night of the Proms, with the whole hall joining the choir and orchestra in favourite hymns and worship songs.

The evening on 3 October will be co-hosted by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, and Noël Tredinnick, principal conductor of the All Souls Orchestra (London).

Also singing will be the gospel singer Beverley Trotman (X-Factor finalist in 2007) singing Feeling Good, trumpeter Giles Fowler playing Carnival of Venice, the Prom Praise York Choir and even the audience. Orchestral items include Finlandia and the theme from The Big Country.
