Following publication of 'Past Cases Review 2', a national independent review of the handling of safeguarding cases in the Church of England over many years, the Diocese of Leeds has published its own executive summary which may be read here.
Safeguarding Dashboards
All parishes are encouraged to use the new digital Safeguarding Dashboards. Many of our parishes have already started to use this helpful tool, and we recommend that every parish signs up to this free, time saving resource which the Diocese of Leeds has invested in to support you.

The Safeguarding Team are here to help you
The Safeguarding Team operates a triage system and a duty team member will deal with all enquiries and issues that arise on a daily rotational basis. Queries will either be answered directly or diverted to the appropriate person.
As your first point of contact for reporting issues or making enquiries, please contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team on:
Team email: safeguarding [at] leeds.anglican.org
Office number: 0113 353 0257
DSAs remain available between 09.00 and 17.00, Monday to Friday. Advice on what action to take outside these hours can be found in the important information section above.
Please note: Gail O’Neill, DBS and Safeguarding Administrator, remains responsible for DBS checks and the organisation of training courses. If you have a safeguarding enquiry that does not require the assistance of a Safeguarding Adviser (e.g. DBS. or training) please contact Gail directly at gail.oneill [at] leeds.anglican.org or 0113 3530204.
What we do
As Safeguarding Advisers, the team:
- Ensure effective safeguarding arrangements are in place across the diocese;
- Act as a point of contact to assist with safeguarding concerns, including those where someone may appear to pose a risk to a church community;
- Offer practical advice on policies, procedures and practice guidance;
- Deliver safeguarding training in line with the national programme;
- Advise on safe recruitment and DBS issues where there are blemished disclosures.
